EON are one of the United Kingdom’s largest energy suppliers. As one of the Big Six energy suppliers, they serve millions of homes and businesses with gas, electricity and dual fuel energy. They employ roughly 12,000 people in England, Scotland and Wales alone, and they have invested considerably in their customer service infrastructure over the last five years to improve their customer satisfaction rates, in response to recent criticisms regarding their customer service record.
EON’s customer service
As a result, EON actually has one of the best customer service departments in the energy industry and especially so among the Big Six. However, their infrastructure is still far from perfect, and a recent Ofgem investigation found that E.ON incorrectly charged exit fees and/or overcharged customers following price rises in January 2013. This has led to an exodus of customers over the last 2 years, however it’s important to keep in mind if you are thinking about switching to EON that they still offer some of the best energy prices on the market.
In September, 2016, EON were charged with a fine of £3m after they missed appointments with thousands of customers and failed to compensate them. About 24,000 customers to date have received payments totalling £1.2 million, but EON are being forced to continue doling out the payments to customers and charities.
Where are EON’s call centres based?
Unlike a great many energy companies in the UK, EON operate exclusively UK based call centres for their UK customers. However, it should be noted that rather than handle the calls themselves, they outsource it to a number of separate companies up and down the country. Unfortunately, this means that you may not be able to speak to the same customer service representative every time you call.
You shouldn’t worry about the customer service advisor not understanding your issue though, because each are trained to know just as much as a regular member of EONs team.
How is EONs reputation compared to the competition?
The Which? consumer survey, which polls more than 8,900 energy customers to ask their opinion on their energy supplier is a regularly updated and reliable indication of how popular a energy supplier is with its customers. In their latest survey, Which? found that EON ranks 14th in the UK out of 23, making is the highest rated of any of the big six energy suppliers.
Customers game it three-star ratings for customer service, value for money, billing and helping them to save energy. In total, EON garnered a Which? consumer score of 57%. The highest rated energy supplier, meanwhile boast a consumer score of 78%.
