A majority of customers like to be able to speak to a professional about problems with their bill or water supply, rather than write and email or have a ‘live chat’ online. With the high volume of calls that large companies like Yorkshire Water receive, it is not surprising that it can take some time to be put through to the right person in the right department – or indeed to have your call answered at all. Some large companies can keep customers on hold for up to 20 minutes before their call is answered. This number avoids that happening to you. Just dial and follow the instructions.

Yorkshire Water Frequently Asked Questions
Two of the most commonly asked questions from customers calling Yorkshire Water on 0345 124 2424 are:
My water is discoloured. Is it safe to drink?
Your water is perfectly safe to drink, even if it looks unappetising. The discolouration is just sediment, and it totally harmless. If you experience a period of discoloured water, there are a few things you can do. Run the tap for a few minutes to see if it clears. Then try pouring a jug of water and letting it stand for a while. During this wait, the sediment will settle and the water will be clearer. Top the jug up with water from the tap after you have used it. That way you will have a constant supply of clear drinking water in your fridge.
I have noticed that my water tastes and smell of diesel fuel. What is causing this?
This is an occasional problem when there has been a fuel spillage close to plastic piping running underground. It is possible that, over time, the fuel has penetrated through the plastic, resulting in the smell or taste of petrol. The first thing to do is to report the problem to the Customer Services department, and it will be investigated immediately.

It is sometimes hard to find a Customer Service number on a company website. This is because large companies prefer queries to be answered online. A good company will have a useful FAQ section, which should answer a majority of questions you might have. But sometimes there is no replacement for talking to an actual person. If you are fed up with being kept on hold, we can help.
