So you bought a used Galaxy Note 2 for around $300 and you love everything about it, except its headphone which sounds just as static as whatever you’ve been already listening to.

Now you start to contemplate with various thoughts as whether the device was dropped at least once or might be some water damage or the motherboard is damaged as the Headphones jack itself might not be the problem because the jack properly plugs into the motherboard. You might be having a bluetooth earpiece to use while driving and talking. But what you really would be seeking is a way to play and listen to music in your truck.

You better be ready to buy a new Note 2 Headphone Jack/earpiece assembly and follow these easy step by step DIY procedures, in case you wish to save some bucks in getting it repaired/replaced by a costly repair shop:

Tools required:

  • Phillips #00 Screwdriver.
  • Spudger.
  • Plastic Razor Tool.

Step 1:

  • Just pull out the Note 2 Stylus pen.
  • Gently insert the plastic razor tool in the divot near the power button, to the left of the rear-facing camera.
  • Hold and pick up the rear case by the corner near the divot and pull it away from the main frame.

Step 2:

  • Remove the SIM card, micro SD card and the battery.

Step 3:

  • Unscrew and remove all the eleven 4.0 mm Phillips #00 screws attaching the mid frame to the display assembly, with your Phillips #00 screwdriver.

Step 4:

  • Gently insert the plastic razor tool between the mid frame and front display panel assembly.
  • Slide the razor tool down the seam and around the side edges of the phone body.

Step 5:

  • Gently release all the clips coming in its way and especially alongside the power button.
  • Firmly hold and separate the display assembly from the mid frame.

Step 6:

Disassemble the motherboard assembly:

  • Use your spudger tool to pop off the power or vibrator button assembly cable connector.
  • Pop off the display cable connector.
  • Pop off the antenna cable connector.

Step 7:

  • Pop off the front-facing camera cable connector.
  • Pop off the digitizer cable connector.
  • Pop off the headphone jack cable connector.

Step 8:

  • Use your spudger tool to pop off the antenna cable connector from the motherboard.
  • Pop off the USB board cable connector.
  • Pop off the soft button cable connector.

Step 9:

  • Use the Phillips screwdriver to unscrew and remove the single 3 mm Phillips #00 screw attaching the motherboard with the display assembly.

Step 10:

  • Carefully take out the motherboard assembly.

Reminder: Cautiously hold the motherboard assembly by its edges, to avoid any cable snag and to prevent any ESD damage, while extracting it from the display assembly.

Step 11:

  • Use the Phillips screwdriver to unscrew and remove the single 3 mm Phillips #00 screw attaching the headphone jack assembly with the display assembly.

Step 12:

  • Carefully grab the headphone jack portion of the headphone assembly and gently pull it out of the display assembly.
  • Cautiously pull the headphone jack straight up.
  • Without twisting the cable, just carefully remove the earpiece speaker portion from its recess.

Step 13:

  • Replace the old headphone jack/earpiece speaker assembly with the new one.

Step 14:

  • Now to reassemble your Note 2 device, follow the above instructions in reverse order (i.e. back from Step 12 to Step 1).

Now you possess a Galaxy Note 2 with a brand new replaced headphone jack/earpiece assembly and you can enjoy your favorite music anytime anywhere.
