Sky Store: 'Buy & Keep' download-to-own service now live, HD digital movie download+DVD

Sky Store customers can now download a movie…and also receive the original DVD by post.

The Buy & Keep service from UK pay-TV giant BSkyB has begun operation its connected Sky customers, letting them for the first time buy films as well as rent them.The ‘Buy & Keep’ movie service for the first time allows connected Sky customers to buy movies as well as renting them. The service, announced earlier this month, gives customers the option of buying and owning titles from the Sky Store as well as renting.

“Our customers love to watch their favourite movies again and again, and with ‘Buy & Keep’ they get the benefit of being able to watch in minutes with the HD digital download, as well as receiving the original DVD in the post,” said Sky Store director Nicola

They will have access to a full digital movie store directly on their TV via their Sky+HD  – letting them buy, watch and keep many of the latest and best movies including The Wolf of Wall Street and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty as soon as they’re released. Customers will also be able to buy and keep some of Hollywood’s best loved classics, all at the touch of a button on their Sky remote.Pricing differs across titles, ranging from £7.99 to £13.99 and downloads can be started immediately after purchase.

They could take several minutes or longer if a customer’s broadband speed is less than 6Mbps. If you wish to clear space on your Sky+HD box, you can delete the downloaded film and re-download it at a later date. Sky will expand their customer services in the future to be available on NOW TV, Roku and YouView boxes too. And next year, tablet and smartphone owners will get the ability to watch their Buy & Keep content on their devices.

BSkyB has plans to expand the service over the next year, introducing support for tablet and smartphone purchases and selling download-to-own TV boxsets.’Buy & Keep’ will eventually be available through NOW TV Box, Roku and YouView boxes, and new content will be added each week.Sky Store is confident that Buy & Keep will offer the simplicity and convenience of an HD digital movie download, with the added bonus of the original DVD sent by post all for one price. As well as brand new films being available at the same time as their DVD release, with many titles will be on offer for digital early release.

along with other titles from 20th Century Fox and NBC Universal. The service will be further enhanced over the coming year with customers being able to access the movies they’ve bought via tablets and smartphones. In the future, TV box sets will be available to buy and Sky Store Buy & Keep will become accessible to anyone who does not yet have Sky TV through the NOW TV over the top (OTT) Box, Roku and YouView boxes as well as via www.skystore.com.
