iPhone 5 Logic Board Replacement – A Perfect Guide

The latest concern buzzing around every Apple user forum is regarding the serious damage done to the iPhone5’s logic board by some of the unauthorized lightning cables or chargers. And the result is – certain handsets are not charging beyond one percent or even failing to boot up at all.

Tools required:

  • Phillips #000 Screwdriver.
  • Plastic razor Tool.
  • Pentalobe Screwdriver.
  • Small flathead Screwdriver.
  • Suction Cup.
  • SIM Card Extract Tool.
  • Spudger tool

iPhone 5 Logic Board Replacement

Step 1:

  • Just switch off your iPhone5 device.
  • Unscrew and remove both of the 3.6 mm Pentalobe screws located near the Lightning connector.
  • Now place your suction cup on the screen and gently press it above the home button.
  • Then hold down your device with one hand and lift the suction cup to slightly detach the front panel assembly away from the rear case assembly.
  • Use your plastic razor tool to carefully pull the rear case down while you pull up the display assembly with your suction cup.
  • Keep on sliding the razor tool along the edges of the front panel assembly and gently detach all the clips coming in its way.

Step 2:

  • After releasing all the sides and bottom clips of the front panel assembly, carefully lift the bottom of the front assembly away from the rear case assembly.
  • Now gently pull up the front panel assembly up to about 90 degrees making a perpendicular with the rear case.
  • Then unscrew and remove the Phillips screws (two 1.2mm and a single 1.6 mm screw) attaching the front panel assembly cable bracket with the logic board.
  • Now detach the front panel assembly cable bracket from the logic board.
  • With your plastic razor tool, just disconnect all the three front panel assembly cables including the LCD cable, front-facing camera and sensor cable and digitizer cable.
  • Now just detach the front panel assembly away from the rear case.

Step 3:

iPhone 5 battery removal:

  • Unscrew and remove both of the Phillips screws (1.8 mm and 1.6 mm) attaching the metal battery connector bracket with the logic board.
  • Now pick out the metal battery connector bracket away from your device.
  • With your plastic razor tool, carefully disconnect the battery connector from its socket on the logic board.
  • Now just remove your iPhone5 battery.

Step 4:

Disassembling the logic board assembly:

  • With your spudger tool tip, just pop off the cellular data antenna cable connector from its socket on the logic board.
  • Now unscrew and remove both of the Phillips screws (a single 1.5 mm and 2.3 mm screw) attaching the top logic board bracket with the rear case.
  • Then detach the bracket from the top of the logic board.
  • Now with your spudger tool’s flat end, just pop off all the three cables away from the logic board including the Button assembly cable, the Upper interconnect cable as well as the Lower interconnect cable.
  • Unscrew and remove both of the 1.3 mm Phillips screws from the rear case inner top.
  • Unscrew and remove the remaining single 1.2 mm Phillips screw from the logic board bracket mid-section.
  • Then detach the mid-section bracket away from the logic board.

Step 5:

  • Now with your spudger tool, disconnect the Lightning connector cable from its socket on the logic board.
  • Then carefully peel off the cable back and away from the logic board.

Step 6:

  • With your SIM card extract tool or a paperclip, just press the SIM card release on the right side of your device to eject the SIM card tray.
  • Now detach the SIM card tray away from your iPhone.
  • Unscrew and remove all the Phillips screws (two 2.3 mm, two 2.7 mm standoff screws and a single non-magnetic 2.7 mm standoff screw) attaching the logic board with the rear case.
  • Then just flip over the logic board assembly towards the battery side.

Step 7:

  • Now with your spudger tool tip, just disconnect the Wi-Fi antenna cable connector from its socket on the logic board’s underside.
  • Then just detach the logic board assembly away from the rear case.

Reminder: Since your logic board is out of your device, just keep it separate and safe, to prevent any sort of damage to the circuitry.

Step 8:

Rear camera removal:

  • Just unscrew and remove both of the 1.1 mm Phillips screws attaching the rear-facing camera bracket with the logic board.
  • Then gently detach the rear-facing camera bracket away from the logic board.
  • Now with your spudger tools flat end, just pop off the rear-facing camera cable from its socket on the logic board.
  • Now gently detach the rear-facing camera away from the logic board.

Step 9:

Logic Board:

  • Now with the spudger tool’s flat end, just pop off both of the interconnect cable bottoms from their sockets on the logic board.
  • Then gently detach the two interconnect cables away from the logic board.
  • Now you have the bare logic board.

Step 10:

  • Replace the existing logic board with the new one.
  • Now to reassemble your iPhone5 device, just follow all the above mentioned steps in reverse order (which means back from Step 9 to Step 1).

Now your iPhone5 device possesses a brand new logic board. Be careful not to damage it again by using any unauthorized charger or lightening cables.
