ASA telephone number 020 7492 2222
The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is a self-regulatory organisation of the advertising industry, funded by the British Government. It makes sure that certain standards are maintained by the advertising industry and will act on your behalf if it determines that an advertisement is based on false or misleading information. The advertisers code of conduct stipulates that marketers must have “documentary evidence to prove all claims, whether direct or implied, that are capable of objective substantiation”. It also states that “no marketing communication should mislead, or be likely to mislead, by inaccuracy, ambiguity, exaggeration, omission or otherwise”.

If an advertiser is found to be in breech of this code of conduct, the ASA will take the matter up directly with them on your behalf. They will instigate and investigation into the case on your behalf to examine the complaint you have. They have the ability to refer repeat offenders to the Office of Fair Trading. They can report an advertiser in the broadcast media to Ofcom.
Advertising Standards Authority Frequently Asked Questions
Here are two of the most frequently asked questions by those using the ASA customer service telephone number [NUMBER]
What type of advertising can the ASA customer service help me with?
The ASA can help you with magazine and newspaper advertisements, radio and TV commercials, television shopping channels, cinema adverts, advertising on smartphone and tablet apps, promotions offered by companies promising prize draws, and competitions, adverts on a company website, internet adverts, social media advertising, and ads on CD ROMs and DVDs.
They also rule on printed adverts that come through your door, such as leafleting campaigns or direct mail shots. They also now regulate Online Behavioural Advertising (OBA), which is the practice of collating information from your web browser to target adverts specifically at you. The Code of Conduct suggests that this is done totally transparently, and that you are given the option not to have your data collected in this way.
What can the Advertising Standards Authority do to help?
There is legislation that protects consumers against false advertising, and the customer services department will discuss with you what they believe to be the best course of action if you ring their number. They can advise you on whether the advert you are concerned about breaches the Code of Conduct, and set up an investigation into your complaint. They will publish the result of the investigation on their website. Although they cannot impose the law on advertisers, they can refer the case to the relevant legal body, such as Ofcom or the Office of Fair Trading. Often the bad publicity from being ruled on by the ASA is enough for an advertiser to amend or remove an advert.
